Claudine Toutoungi is a dramatist and poet, whose poetry collections are Smoothie (2017), Two Tongues (2020) and Emotional Support Horse (2024) all with Carcanet Press. Two Tongues won the Ledbury Munthe Poetry Prize and Emotional Support Horse was Longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. She appears widely at festivals and on Radio 4 and her plays include Slipping, Deliverers and The Voice in my Ear. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, The Poetry Review, PN Review, The Guardian, The New Statesman, Granta, The Financial Times and elsewhere. As a performer, Claudine’s contributions to festivals and events include Galway’s Cuirt Festival, Tongue Fu, Poetry East, Kendal Poetry Festival, Shubbak at the National Theatre and she has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, In Touch and Poetry Please. Her multiple dramas for BBC Radio 4 include Brat Farrar, The Inheritors and most recently Sense and Sensibility, dramatised for Austen’s 250th Anniversary. She is a recipient of the Royal Society of Literature’s 2025 Scriptorium Award.
